Autism is a serial collective. Autistic people are defined by their material relationship to the rest of society.

There are a cluster of pyschological characteristics that are associated with autism (of which every autistic person will have some, but not all, and likely a different set than the next autistic person they meet). There is no biomarker for autism, it is not genetically identifiable, there's no chemical imbalance. It is not a medically or scientifically defensible 'kind' of human. It is a flexible, socially defined, culturally mediated group of beings.

Being autistic means being in a certain psychobiosocial [neuropolitical/bodypolitical] position with regards to the dominant culture, to white supremacist institionally-sexist cisheterosexual society; to the 'neurotypical'; to executive mindset; to the allistic; to the trained professional sitting opposite you when they assess you with binary questions and fumbling linguistic attempts at translating your mindbody; to those who just don't resonate with your experience of existence.

We are defined by our social position. We don't fit in to the economic logic of our times. We do not work at a roughly even pace for 13 periods of 28 days each year. We are not chrononormative. We are not convinced by social conventions and roles, and have our own. We are protective of our energy, our interest, and attention. We care deeply and feel deeply. We do not enjoy lying or dishonesty. We live to different rythms. We experience energetic intensities that fluctuate constantly and in response to external and internal symbolic associations, memories, experiences, consciousness. We do not offer intimacy lightly, but offer it with these same intensities. Our sensory world is more or less complex and textured, with more room for variance between ecstasy and agony.

White supremacist institionally-sexist cisheterosexual society requires workers all year, all the time, an even cash flow. Social conventions allow those with power to maintain it, and support the agendas of those who are most benefitted by it; they are violently defended by those who benefit and those who don't but have an emotional attachment to the stories taught to us.

Us/them is an important binary to which conformity is required and enforced. Energy is a resource to be exploited. Superficial interpretations of reality are commonpalce. Mythos and Logos are confused at all times. The world is there to be dominated. Dishonesty is rational. [Me:] Rationality IS dishonest.

These social-position characteristics are clustered in such a way that unites us by proximity and the way in which these experiences intersect. These characteristics also overlap and intersect with multiple layers of oppression and mindbody positionality with regards to dominant culture present in any autistic person.

To be autistic is eminently "self-diagnosable" because it is really self-recognition, and autistic identity can be community affirmed because we recognise outselves in others. The diagnosis [recognition] is of your social position. Who better to recognise the social position of any given mindbody than the mindbody itself, from the inside.
